Hello, since version 4.2.0 all distribution files from crystal dew are diagnosed bei ESET virus scanner as containing W32/OpenCandy unwanted functionality. ESET is the best ranked scanner in Europe and has a huge usage base. Regards SchweizerGarde@t-online.de

I'd like to see support added for more controllers. I have a Silicon Image Sil 3132 in my system connected to an external 4-bay toaster. As it currently stands, I can only see the 2 drives installed internally and not the 4 additional drives in the docking station.

When I start CrystalDiskInfo, I'm getting the message "Disk Not Found". In my workstation are two HDDs: FUJITSU MBA3147RC SCSI Disk Device and SEAGATE ST373455SS SCSI Disk Device Could you please add these two HDDs in your application?! Do you need any further information?

Hi,

I think CrystalDiskInfo is useful with a classical Windows.

But, with Windows PE x64, it can't be used, because it's not a native x64 binary.

Also, recent computers have EFI and so Windows PE x86 can't be used, it's x64 only.

Please, do you plan a x64 version, as the old x64 2.7.1 ?

Hello, after resume from sleep mode, I receive a temperature allarm (58°C) for the SSD.

When I press the key F6 the temperature back to normale (1°C).

The problem is from versione 3.7.0 to 5.1.0.

I use CrystalDiskInfo during last years and I appreciate it very high. Good job!

But recently I found probably excessive folders and files in CdiResource\theme\ folder of Distributive ZIP archive of portable version 5.0.2 (ZIP length=2177974).

They are: dialog\, gadget\, language\, theme\, AlertMail.exe, AlertMail4.exe.

I have a drive that goes between 49 and 50C several times a day generating emails! I'd like to be able to set the high temp to 52. Can you make a parameter in the .ini file? Would it need to be enforced per drive type or for any drive?

I have a refurbished Western Digital HDD (2TB Green) that I received as a replacement, and Crystal Disk Info does not find it. I don't know exactly what you need to help fix this problem. Speed Fan can find the drive and report the SMART data and Firmware, but there is no model number or any other information. Windows 7 lists this for the Hardware Ids: "SCSI\Disk_50.0"

I will keep track of this ticket, so if you have questions I will attempt to answer them.

CDI 4.6.1 says disk not found, but i have 2 discs in the machine.

i believe the intel RST 11.5 alpha are the cause, but i can't remove them and loose the speed improvements they bring.

hope there's something that can be done to fix this in a future update.

Hi, CrystalDiskInfo 4.6.0 has a bug no threshold data.(fixed in 4.6.1)

OCZ Vertex 2 FW:1.27 may report incorrect threshold data, so CrystalDiskInfo 4.6.1 reports BAD. This problem is fixed in latest firmware (1.35). Please update firemware from http://www.ocztechnology.com/ssd_tools/OCZ_Vertex_2,_Vertex_LE,_Agility_2/

I will add workaround for this problem ASAP.

hi i just installed cdi 4.6.1 with the intel raid fix

i have 2 computers with intel RST 11.5 alpha and CDI can't see any disc on either machine.

Before installing IRST11.5 i know old CDI 4.0.4 could see my drives fine.

ps: could something be done to check for new updates in the program plz? i received no notification of updates since i installed v4.0.4

Please make CrystalDiskinfo detect temperature (and additional information) when HDD is in Intel SATA controller chipset (ICHxx) RAID.

"ArgusMonitor" software can do this. Why CrystalDiskInfo can't?

hi there, i have the following requirement: when logging on to some remote machine, i need to quickly find out whether the current disk controller is running in AHCI mode (instead of legacy ATA / IDE) or not. in other words:

1) is it running in AHCI? 2) is it using NCQ?

i have searched the web for any suitable tool - without success. i ran accross CrystalDiskInfo an am pretty impressed. however, it also does not display any information on AHCI ? ...

It would be great if the CrystalDiskInfo can hide some temperture icons depends on some conditions. Is it possible to add some options (in addition to "show temperature icon")?

1. Show only one icon with maximum temperature on all drives

2. Show temperature icons only for those drives which temperature higher than (some value) or as variant "Hide icons for cold drives" and setup borderline temperature...

I don't know if this needs a new ticket or not, but since this one has to do with how temperature is displayed, I figured it might be a good place to add this suggestion. It would be nice if both Celsius and Fahrenheit were both displayed instead of have to go through the long string of options to change it. So it would just show "33C (91F)." I know the metric system, but I still cannot think in it when it comes to temperatures (American).

This is a very nice application. It seems to me that it would be very much more useful if it was split into two parts, with all of the functionality that is needed to run as SYSTEM context to be a well behaved service and then another user mode application that would have all of the graphical interface elements, communication to be done via localhost sockets.

I run Windows XP as a limited user, not admin, and this would make this application completely useful to me. I am currently running the monolithic application as a desktop interacting service using SRVANY but it is not working all that well; the tray icon most of the time does not appear since the service comes up before the tray icons have a chance to be created correctly. Also, most of the time, the service seems to block normal logging off.

Again, all of the problems would be solved if there was a split of the code as I suggested.

Have you thought about doing this at all? Have you even started? I wouldn't mind doing it with your blessing and perhaps a bit of help now and then if there was any of the code I didn't understand.

Dear guys I'm really interested in you software. It's really simple and for me as a photographer this is a must! But I've bought an SSD as in subject and I cannot understand what it makes with the ID 9 Power -on Hours Count. Somedays it goes upby 2 others in one real hour of use it augments by 10.

This field is the most important for me 'cause at a certain point i need to replace drives for data security, but i cannot understand this field.

CrystalDiskInfo does not see a USB attached drive (H).

The H drive is seen in Windows Disk Management and I can copy files to it with no problem.

What is interesting is the Windows Disk management does Not see the installed and working C drive.

The drive installed in the External USB enclosure is an IDE 200gb drive. The C drive is partitioned with 2 partitions (C and Z). Crystal disk sees only C. No Z and No H.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for this fine program. I have it installed on all my computers and that of my friends and family too!

Recently, i purchased a notebook that doesn't have a hard disk activity LED indicator. I searched the Internet for a software hard disk activity indicator but couldn't find a good one. Then i realized, since CrystalDiskInfo is already monitoring the hard disk, wouldn't it be cool to have an option, to also flash hard disk activity either via a new icon or maybe a modification to the existing temperature icon (maybe via a color outline)?

I have 2 2TB Western Digital drvies connected as primary drives inside my Dell OptiPlex 960. They show as WDC WD2001FASS-00W2B0, however they list the buffer size and rotation speed as "unknown." I have some WD 1TB drives connected externally and they report the correct information. The proper buffer for the 2TB black drive is 64MB and a rotation speed of 7200 rpm. Not sure why this is not reporting correctly through your excellent tool.

OCZ Vertex2 120GB (firmware 1.23) SSD drive's temperature is not reporting correctly in CrystalDiskInfo. I'm on CDI 4.0.0 Dev5. Temperature is reporting at 176 Degrees F but the drive is cool to the touch. Estimate at 80 Degrees F, which is slightly over ambient air temp.

Hi! First to say: Superb Software, thanks!

And now my Question, i think an older Version had support for HD Standby but i am not sure. Now the Software prevents HDs to change in Standby Mode. Is it possible to allow HDs the Sleep mode when the Software runs in the Background? If yes it would be great, because i use a SSD for the System and 2 normal HDs for my Data. And if yes, could you add a decadently luxury feature ;-) that displays the sleep Status?

I use case atches, making easy swappign of HDDs, like in inks below.

I wound CDI (on Vista x86) reporting my HDD fault. It was CDI 3.6.4_{maybe latest 3.9.3. fixed that, dunno.
I looked at it and was shocked to see "Remapped sectors as 100/100/140/0" val/worst/threshold/raw}

Then i looked the drive was G: Western 1Tb drive. But i alread replaced it! I made Rescan (F6) and CDI dispayed me correct P: Samsung 1.5 TB disk with Remapped Sectors as "100/100/10"

So i think, that CDI did not saw HDD change, re-queried val/worst, but did not re-queried the threshhold and HDD passport.

What i think would be nice to implement:

1) CDI does monitor hardware attachments/detachments messagies and in time acknowedge drivwe letters and disks changes. 2) CDI as a 2nd line defense, looks whether SMART had suddenly changed in large difference from last reports and if such - rescans drive's passport, threshholds/raws and drive letter.

PS: hardware used o swap drives: dealextreme.com SKU 15208 and 33559 and 19704

When the driver reports disk as "SCSI Disk Device", SMART values are read but I cannot set APM value. (all controllers in AHCI only mode - no RAID: JMicron JMB360 controller - jraid.sys driver, NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller - nvstor64.sys driver)

hdparm has the same problem: hdparm - get/set hard disk parameters - version v6.9-20070516 (Win32) hda: setting Advanced Power Management level to 0xFE (254) HDIO_DRIVE_CMD failed: Function not implemented

I must rollback to msahci.sys to be able to set the value (via CDI or hdparm). This means losing hot-swap an maybe other capabilities.

my disk has some reallocate sectors and therefore is in state "be careful". I would love to see an "ignore"-button that changes the state back into "good". And if the disk changes the value again, then goes back to "be careful". Ok?

Dell Dimension 9150. Grant it this is getting to be an old system, but i thought i would report. Only one hard drive is detected, and all information seems valid, except for the size reported as 1000GB. In reality, the Raid1 has 2 500GB drives.

I tried unloading what i thought was the intel raid monitor software, and no change... but i may be mistaken. thank you for such valuable and informative software. Enable or disable advanced disk search = no change. SMART pass through workaround = no change.

Hello Hiyohiyo, First I would like to give a big thank you for CrystalDiskInfo, a very nice application, great!

Here is a small cosmetic request, if possible.

If CrystalDiskInfo can have an option to display drives in "Drive letter order". I think at the moment, it displays in "SATA plug order".

For now, it shows on my system: Disk G:, Disk F:, Disc D:, Disc C:

I would like instead display in "logic" Windows letter order; Disc C:, Disc D:, Disc F:, Disc G:

I started CDI while having a La Cie external USB drive plugged in (model: http://www.lacie.com/fi/products/product.htm?pid=11016 , visible in the device manager as "SAMSUNG HD103SI USB Device"), as I was copying files from it. Starting CDI took nearly a minute without any visible window, after which the copy halted with error messages. The disk was not visible in CDI (internal AHCI-connected disks were).

The external hard drive was inaccessible and caused many (hundreds) of "Disk: An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk2\DR2 during a paging operation." and "Ntfs: The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur." errors in the system event viewer. I had to unplug and reattach the drive to be able to access it again. I hope no data corruption was actually caused.

Hi,

MSI Afterburner software is usefull for overclocking a graphic card and it can use an automatic profile management to determine if 2D profile or 3D profile must be loaded.

Without CrystalDiskInfo launched, MSI Afterburner = 2D profile. With CrystalDiskInfo launched, MSI Afterburner = 3D profile.

Why CrystalDiskInfo is detected as a 3D application ??

Need a fix.

CrystalDiskInfo uses IE for User Interface. And IE9 or later uses Direct2D/DirectWrite/(Direct3D), so MSI AfterBurner changes to 3D mode.

The behavior is by design.

I am impressed that this tool can report S.M.A.R.T. values for external USB2 disks, which other tools such as HD Tune can't.

But one external enclosure connected by eSATA to the PC didn't show S.M.A.R.T. values.

Details:

I have two types of external enclosures that support both USB2 and eSATA connections.

- Logitec LHR-DS02

When I connected the above enclosures by USB2, crystaldisk reported S.M.A.R.T. values. Great!

However, when I installed an eSATA interface board (Silicon Image Sil 3132 SATALink controller) and changed the connection to eSATA for the both enclosures, the disk in Logitec LHR-DS02 continued to show S.M.A.R.T. values (shown as WDC WD10 EADS-00M2B0 SCSI Disk Device in device manager), but the disk in Transcend StoreJet35 enclosure no longer showed S.M.A.R.T. values (shown as WDC WD15 EARS-000MVWB0 SCSI Disk Device).

I noticed there were reports about eSATA disks recognized as SCSI Disk Device failed to report S.M.A.R.T. values. So this may be one of similar problems.

Just thought to report the problem.

Since it's already possible to graph 9 raw values, why can't we choose just any raw value to graph? Particularly, I'm interested in the start-stop count, which might grow even if power cycle count isn't growing. But I'm sure other people have other things to graph, that don't happen to belong to the 9 values that can be currently selected. Why does this limitation exist in the first place? This should be very easy to fix, barring some UI concerns. Just stick the remaining raw values to the end of the drop-down list, if you really think having all the raw values on top would clutter too much.

OK, I now understand that some RAW values might be problematic to add. Is there any chance that start-stop count could be added, though, if that would be easy to implement? Then it would be possible to check how often Windows power saving policy causes disks to spin up. This value shouldn't be changing too often, either, so the log file size shouldn't be affected much.

Thanks for your very prompt response, Hiyohiyo! I apologize for this 'nuisance' post of mine, as I was unaware than the letter suffix was simply a language update. I was not trying to be rude, just helpful: I look forward to each new version, and I check EVERY day at least once. I have a very large home LAN and my main PC has 11 disks now (soon to increase).

Your program has given me the information I needed when all SEEMED wrong (but wasn't) and in one case I fixed the firmware of the drive itself; At present I am slowly watching the graph of a 3 year old 1TB Seagate drive reallocate a sector each week or month (after a big change of 10). In this example I now only use the drive for backups of low priority information, knowing it is on the way out!

Without you program, anything could go wrong without warning (I don't care what Google say about SMART, it works for me!).

Other SMART programs are useless as they do not monitor my USB drives; your program does in every case - perfectly!

Home LAN includes NAS, server, etc. However 'main' PC currently has 11 hard disk drives being monitored by this EXCELLENT program. THE BEST S.M.A.R.T. tool I have ever seen for normal use!

Inability to view all 11 drives simultaneously by opening main window is an 'annoyance', can the ability to either: (a) simply resize the window be added, or; (b) set 'number of drives' be added and window resizes or uses another method to enable a better user experience in quickly seeing the status of all drives immediately?

CrystalDiskInfo 3.10.0 crashes upon launch in Windows 7 64-bit.

Generated error message is generic: "CrystalDiskInfo has stopped working".

Crashes occur at every launch with both the installer version and the standalone (no installer) package.

It's not good to use administrator account for everyday usage. So it would be nice to have an ability to run CrystalDiskInfo as ordinary user instead of administrator. I'm not sure how can it possible. May be it can be possible if it runs as system service or somehow else?

It is required administrative privileges to send IDENTIFY_DEVICE, READ_SMART_DATA, etc... command to the target disk. So, we can not run CrystalDiskInfo as ordinary user.

When I launch CDI on my new desktop, the UI never appears. DiskInfo.exe is present as a process in task manager, but not listed as a running applications.

I have tried logging in as administrator, and no difference.

System is WinXPSP3, with 3 drives: Ocz Vertex2 (boot), WD 1TB Green, and Ocz Revodrive. AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 B50 Processor GA-890GPA-UD3H mobo w/ 8GB RAM

Hello Hiyohiyo, it's a fantastic software you are developping there. I was wondering if you could implement TRIM function for SSD drives (Intel, etc..), as "Intel SSD Toolbox" relies on .NET, which is horrible! To be able to use "Intel SSD Toolbox", user must install 400MB or even more files from .NET, it's crazy (at least on XP SP3). Because your soft is light and doesn't rely on .NET, it would be perfect if it had TRIM support! Thank you.

By default the "Setting" region of the Diskinfo.ini file does not contain all available settings to allow editing. In order to edit settings that are not listed the GUI is required to be set and then it is added to the Diskinfo.ini file. This makes it difficult to manage settings from a script for speed and accuracy.

Please create all default settings at first run of DiskInfo.exe to populate the Diskinfo.ini "Setting" region. Thanks.

I would love to see a button to start tests on the disks, like seagates SeaTools has. AFAIK the start of a self test flushes several SMART values into the statistics.

I'm using a double disk enclosure (named Stardom ST-3620) with a JM20336 Chipset. Connection is via a single USB cable (JBOD). The drives are (1) Samsung HD103UJ, (2) Samsung HD154UI. There is one volume on each drive (T: and W:). According to program's online help, this chipset is supported. However, only the first disk (T:) is detected. By changing any of the options of the program, this doesn't improve - only 1 drive is found. Maybe this can be fixed in the future. Good luck!

This is a great tool and I use it mainly to disable my HDDs annoying power managements. Unfortunately this change will not survive a reboot, so I have to redo it at every start up.

Could you please add some command line options, that allow such changes to be automated via the Windows scheduler?

Hello. Love this app! It is the best out of all I could find! (free, light, no memory leaks, alerts, works on server 2008 x64)

I would just like it if a smart attribute was triggered (reallocated for instance) that the temp icon for the drive could change and not just for temp alerts. I suck at design but maybe make it the same color as the temp alert or a different color? Maybe yellow for alerts and red/orange for temp or red for alerts and orange for temp? Like I said, I am bad at design.

I use this on my home server all the time but don't always open the main window so if there's a reallocated sector then I might not see it for a few days (alert window disappears sometimes before seeing it). It would just help if you could glance at the temp icons to get a quick idea of their status.

CrystalDiskInfo does not support RAID mode. So, CrystalDiskInfo can not detect disks under RAID driver.

If you use AHCI driver, CrystalDiskInfo may detect disks.

Please allow the ability to ignore specific smart IDs that have a current raw value greater than FFh (255).

At the moment, the slider or manual entry only allows ignoring values between 1..255 (01h..FFh) or ignoring them completely.

Actually, it's OK. It turns out you can edit the DiskInfo.ini file directly and specify values >255.

Only a small problem: the saving of RawVlues into DiskInfo.ini is o.k. but at new start the setting is back to Hex - it seems there is no reading of this value...

Hi! I have a motherboard ASUS P5B-PLUS with JMicron 36X SATA controller onboard. I also have a PCI-X card based on JMicron 36X installed.

I have 3 HDD - 1 connected to onboard controller, 2 connected to addon card

OS - Win7

The bug is: When you install JMicron RAID drivers, CrystalDiskInfo doesn't see any HDDs attached to addon card, but see HDD attached to motherboard. If you uninstall JMicron RAID drivers, the program can see all the disks. In that case, the driver for the onboard JMicron is recognized by OS as Standard SATA controller. Addon card drivers are installed automatically and are JMicron drivers.

I have a new MK1665gsx 160gb hdd which support SMART and other features. When I run Crystal Disk Info, it gives different Features etc each time: Feature: SMART or 48bit LBA or AAM or combination of them or nothing at all; Interface: P ATA or S ATA; Transfer Mode: SATA/600 or SATA 300 or SATA 150 etc; Standard: |---203Ah, sometime it says a different value; Rotation: 12110(which is not) or unknown; It always says Health Status: unknown; I use SIW, use to say my hdd has SMART feature, it say no now

海外のユーザさんから Vista SP1 から SP2 にアップデートしたところ、S.M.A.R.T. 情報が正常に取得できなくなったとの報告がありました。テキストコピーデータによると確かに SMART_READ_DATA に不自然な値が多数混ざっていることを確認。ぱっと見 SMART_READ_THRESHOLD は普通っぽいが SP1 での結果がないため詳細は不明。

手元の環境では再現せず正常に動作していることから環境に依存するものと思われます。

DeviceIoControl の引数を x86 版と同じにしても動作しないことからアラインメントが怪しいと思うのですが、16byte 境界に揃えても動作せず何が悪いのかは不明。

GetLastError() 値は 87 で、『パラメータが間違っています。』『The parameter is incorrect. 』とのこと・・・。
